Take a closer look at this transformative renovation project of a typical apartment in the heart of Vienna. With the help of some of our cornices, chair rails, skirtings and ceiling roses, Studio Keen were able to encapsulate the old building’s charm whilst giving the space a fresh new look and contemporary feel.

This is Studio Keen; a young and exciting design collective based in Vienna founded by Angelina (Gini) Dörfler and Marietta Kiesling. As close friends with a common passion for interior and design, the two ambitious entrepreneurs decided to join forces in 2023 to offer a comprehensive and tailored service to take interiors to the next level. While Marietta is specialised in renovation, with a focus on old buildings, Gini’s expertise lies in the furnishing and decorating of spaces.
The pair total more than 270.000 social media followers, inspiring their communities through their eye for interior and outstanding work. With the coming together of two creative minds and different yet complimentary approaches to design, Studio Keen are able to bring a singular touch defined by their purity, eye for detail and great understanding of space and balance in decoration.
In 2023, we were delighted to support them in their first project as a newly founded design studio. As exclusive brand partners, we put our full range of decorative profiles at their disposal and let them work their magic.
The first project the dynamic duo took on was the “Deux Cheminées” apartment in a typical old Viennese building, located in the city-centre. The apartment was to be completely renovated and the space presented a lot of potential.
Retaining the apartment’s characterful original features was key to making this project a success. The timeless fishbone hardwood floors, high ceilings, hand-crafted tinted glass windows and old-fashioned window frames and doors were all preciously preserved and refurbished to keep the premises’ original charm alive. The old Swedish-style tiled stove, which was given a make-over with fresh a coat of white paint now serves as a masterful decorative centrepiece in the bedroom. The space is now fitted with modern furniture, light fixtures, decoration and a stunning second fireplace, which gave the project its name.
The apartment, like many others in Vienna, also featured original stucco mouldings. Wanting to emphasize this typical trait, Studio Keen decided to install NOËL & MARQUET decorative elements to best complement the existing profiles.
The living areas were already fitted with cornices, skirtings and ceiling roses but the hallway had none. Gini and Marietta found references in the NOËL & MARQUET portfolio that echoed the original mouldings’ designs to achieve a uniform result. Our large floral R24 ceiling rose, ornate Z41 cornice and timeless classic FB2F skirtings were thus chosen to extend the common thread in all areas of the apartment.
Studio Keen also decided to completely rethink the wall decor concept by integrating classic Parisian-style wall frames made from our WL2 chair rails. The frames were installed in the bedroom, living room and hallway as well as on certain doors.
By preserving and enhancing the premises’ original charm with the right selection of decorative profiles, the designers were able find the right balance between traditional Viennese architecture and contemporary interior design, turning the apartment in to a warm and welcoming space.
